A Nation United in Grief and Outrage

In Bangladesh, cricket is far more than just a sport; it is a unifying force that reflects the collective conscience of the nation. When tragedy strikes, the country’s cricketing heroes often step forward to lead the conversation. The recent, horrific rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter in Dhaka’s Pallabi area has deeply shaken the country, prompting an unprecedented wave of grief and anger. In response, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), along with national captains and senior players, have strongly raised their voices to demand immediate justice and exemplary punishment for the perpetrator.

The tragedy has united people from all walks of life, with the country’s most followed athletes using their platforms to ensure that this heinous crime does not go unnoticed or unpunished. As protests grow across the capital, the cricketing community has made it clear that they stand firmly with the victim’s family in their quest for justice.

The Horrific Crime That Shook the Capital

Ramisa Akter, a bright second-grade student, lived with her family in the busy neighborhood of Pallabi in Dhaka. Her life was tragically cut short when she was allegedly lured and attacked by her neighbor, Sohel Rana. The chilling details of the crime have sent shockwaves throughout the country.

On the morning of the incident, around 10:30 AM, eight-year-old Ramisa was getting ready to leave for school with her elder sister when she suddenly went missing. A frantic search began immediately. The situation took a horrifying turn when Ramisa’s mother noticed one of her daughter’s shoes placed suspiciously outside the apartment of their neighbor, Sohel Rana.

Upon receiving the information, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrived at the scene to conduct a search. What they discovered inside the apartment left the community paralyzed with grief. Ramisa’s decapitated body was found hidden underneath a bed, while her severed head had been concealed inside a bucket in the bathroom toilet. The sheer brutality of the act has triggered widespread protests, with citizens and social media users demanding the absolute harshest punishment for the accused.

The Bengal Tigers Break Their Silence

Given their massive reach and influence, Bangladesh’s national cricketers have a powerful voice in society. Following the news of the tragedy, several prominent players took to their official social media platforms to express their sorrow and demand accountability.

Najmul Hossain Shanto Leads the Call for Change

Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto shared his grief by posting a sketch of young Ramisa on his verified Facebook page. His words carried both deep sorrow and an urgent plea for societal reform.

“We want a society where every child can smile safely, not in fear, and grow up with dreams. No other Ramisa’s life should end like this. May Allah grant her paradise, and may the culprits receive punishment that sets an example for society,” Shanto wrote.

Litton Das Speaks as a Devastated Parent

For T20I captain Litton Das, the tragedy hit incredibly close to home. As the father of a young daughter, Litton spoke not just as a national athlete, but as a deeply concerned parent fearing for the safety of children in society.

“As a parent of a daughter, hearing the news about Ramisa is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking. This cannot be tolerated in any society. We all deserve a safer world for our children, where they can grow without fear. Anything wrong that happens deserves proper justice – and in the case of Ramisa, justice must be delivered without delay,” Litton expressed.

He continued by emphasizing the moral obligation of society to protect its youth: “As we stand together demanding justice for Ramisa, let us also say it loudly and clearly: crimes like this deserve the harshest punishment. We do not want to witness another tragedy like this ever again.”

Mushfiqur Rahim Expresses Utter Shock

Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim, one of the most respected senior figures in Bangladesh cricket, also expressed his profound shock and sadness over the incident, calling for swift judicial action.

“Totally shocked by the news this morning. Young Ramisa deserved safety, love, and protection… not such horrific cruelty. I demand quick and proper justice for this innocent child, no family should ever have to endure this kind of pain. Crimes against children deserve the harshest punishment,” Rahim stated on his social channels.

BCB Demands Institutional Accountability and Justice

The governing body of the sport, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), joined the players in condemning the act. In an official statement shared across its digital platforms, the board expressed its solidarity with the grieving family and the nation.

“We are deeply shocked and outraged at the heinous crime committed against little Ramisa. Our hearts bleed for Ramisa and all victims of such senseless acts of cruelty. We are united today in demanding justice,” the BCB statement read.

The active involvement of the BCB and its players has amplified the demands for justice, keeping the tragic case in the public eye. By using their platforms, the country’s cricketing community hopes to ensure that the legal process moves swiftly and that such horrific crimes are met with the strictest consequences permitted by law.
