Bangladesh Sets 437-Run Target for Pakistan After Day 3 of Sylhet Test

Bad light brought an early end to play on Day 3 of the Sylhet Test, with Pakistan facing a massive target of 437 runs. During the short period, Pakistan could not score a single run, as Bangladesh bowled two overs, both of them maidens.

Chasing the massive target, Pakistan faced two overs before stumps – first from Taskin Ahmed and then from Shoriful Islam. Neither bowler conceded a run, and eventually, the umpires decided to end the day due to poor visibility.

Strong Partnership Steadies Bangladesh

Bangladesh, who earned a 46-run first-innings lead, ended Day 2 at 110 for 3, thanks to half-centuries from Mahmudul Hasan Joy (52) and Mominul Haque (30). On Day 3, they lost captain Najmul Hossain Shanto early in the first session.

Despite losing their captain, Bangladesh were steadied by a strong partnership between Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das, who added 123 runs for the fifth wicket. Litton, who had scored a century in the first innings, made 69 runs off 92 balls in the second innings.

Mushfiqur Rahim Shines with Record-Breaking Innings

After Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s dismissal, Mushfiqur built another crucial 77-run stand with Taijul Islam. Taijul was dismissed for 22 off 51 balls, but Mushfiqur remained firm. Mushfiqur eventually brought up a record-breaking innings, scoring 137 runs off 233 balls before becoming the last batter out.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 390 in 102.2 overs, setting Pakistan a target of 437 runs. With this challenging target, the stage is set for an exciting conclusion to the Sylhet Test.
